I think many people might be confused like I was at first (a long time ago) about what "Oracle" really is!

In our country (Thailand), some people think that "Oracle" is just a database system. Others understand that "Oracle" is a type of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system. (I'll explain ERP later.)

Actually, both are correct. The company Oracle owns an ERP system called Oracle e-Business Suite (some people also call it Oracle Application) and a database system called Oracle Database. There are many other products too, like Oracle Weblogic, Java, MySQL, and many more.

Now, back to the original point! Why do people understand it differently? Because in large companies and government agencies in Thailand, most of them use Oracle databases. This is because they are highly reliable when used together with the software systems they develop themselves. When they communicate with users, they refer to the software they developed as the "Oracle system."

However, in some companies, they buy a complete software package developed by Oracle, which we often call Oracle ERP or Oracle App. The users of this system usually just call it the Oracle system.

So, if you hear the term "Oracle system," you should ask whether it's a system developed by Oracle using their own database, or if it's an Oracle package. This way, you can avoid any confusion.
